About the course
This course will be split into a bit of theory and a lot of practical hands-on learning. Kinesh will give participants a brief overview of the latest science and research around mushrooms, as well as place fungi within a historical context in human development, to demonstrate the role fungi have played in the development of our species. Participants will then spend the majority of the course learning to cultivate their own oyster and shitake mushrooms at home.

Stuff
Kinesh Chetty is a biologist and an ardent fungiculturist. While his academic studies initially focused on reptiles and eventually culminated in a Master’s degree on all things avian, his interest in environmental sciences and conservation expanded into the fascinating world of fungi. Just a couple of years after moving to Hogsback, he founded the Hogsback Mushroom Festival, a two-day affair featuring talks from South Africa’s top experts on the science of fungi, as well as gala dinner featuring experimental fungi-based dishes.
